Neil Butler
From Australia, Bachelor Business, Monash University, Australia. Neil has been in business in Japan and Asia for 38 years, working in media, marketing, branding, management, trade facilitation and business development. Neil implemented one of Australia's largest single international consumer marketing program, the 'Aussie Beef' branding program in Japan. He speaks both English and Japanese.

Yoko Ishikawa
Yoko studied at the international department of Sophia University and spent her high school years in the USA. She spent 22 years in hospital management and 28 years as an English instructor. Founded and has for 10 years been successfully running her own NPO in order to showcase Japanese culture to the world.
Art Director
Hal Suzuki
Hal's career is truly diverse and international. After studying advertising design and film at one of Japan's top art universities, Tama Art University, he became the editor-in-chief of a local magazine in Nagoya and later worked as a scriptwriter for TV shows and a radio. After moving to Sydney, Australia, he joined Fairfax Group’s "RAM (Rock Australia Magazine)" as an Art Director. Back in Japan, he worked for Japan's second largest Advertising Agency, Hakuhodo. Valued for his English skills and international experience, he was transferred to their Singapore branch as a senior art director, where he handled advertising campaigns for clients like Nissin Foods, Mazda, and Isetan.
He founded his own advertising agency in Singapore and grew it into a boutique agency of 50 employees, winning numerous advertising awards globally, including in New York.
Hal has a deep love for V8 Mustangs and Harley-Davidsons.

Jessie Carbutt
Since graduating from Lancaster University in the UK with a BA in English Literature, Creative Writing and French, Jess has worked as a writer, editor, content curator and social media consultant in Europe and Japan. Currently, she is the assistant editor at Metropolis Magazine and digital media consultant for Japan Partnerships Holdings’ clients, working with SNS, online and print media.

Arden Kreuzer
Southern California-born, Tokyo-based writer and editor, Arden, is a graduate of Temple University Japan with a BA in Asian Studies and Japanese. Arden brings a distinctive perspective to her writing, informed by a background in sociology, East Asian history and journalism. As an editor at Metropolis Magazine, Arden uses her deep understanding of Japanese and American cultural contexts to create engaging content across several forms of media including SNS, online and print platforms.

Patrick Balfe
Born and raised in Australia, Patrick has lived in Tokyo since 2017 and has served as an editor at Metropolis Magazine since 2021. A graduate of Queensland University of Technology, Patrick has a background in the Australian and Japanese music industries as a festival producer and concert promoter and brings this knowledge of arts and culture to the Metropolis editorial team.

Takeshi Dylan Sadachi
Born in 1997, Takeshi spent their childhood in Connecticut before attending high school in both Japan and the U.S. They studied Liberal Arts at Waseda University with a focus on gender and post-colonialism, and also attended SOAS University of London. Starting their career as a writer for LGBTQ+ media while studying, they have worked as an editor for a fashion and beauty media outlet and culture magazine since graduation. Takeshi was honored with a fully-funded scholarship from the UK government, prompting their return to SOAS University of London to research Japanese queer culture. Since coming back to Japan in late 2023, they now engage in editing and content production at Metropolis Magazine.

Joel Chudleigh
Joel is originally from the UK and has 20 years of experience in digital marketing, his strengths are Google Ads, Meta Ads and email marketing as well as the overall digital marketing strategy that supports these channels. His passion is to use the internet to connect like-minded people and to create value for clients and businesses. Outside of work he likes to be outdoors surfing and hiking.

Fernando Goya
From São Paulo, Brazil. Fernando has been programming for more than 15 years building websites and systems. He is passionate about technology, music and discovering new places. He speaks Portuguese, English and Japanese.

Natsuki Araki
Born in Fukuoka City. After graduating from high school, Natsuki moved to New York to become a professional dancer. When she was a student in university in New York, the web design class she studied led her to the path of web designer. After graduating from university, she gained experience as a web designer in All Nippon Airways’ (ANA) Manhattan office. Since returning to Japan, she has continued to strengthen her skills at various companies such as an entertainment company and a web production company, and she became a freelancer. She joined Metropolis and now manages several companies' projects, overseeing everything from direction to design and coding.

Nobuo (Nick) Nakazawa
Born in Tokyo, Nick majored in Corporate Management at Aoyama Gakuin University, Faculty of Business Administration. He was a member of the university's American Football Club. After graduation, he served as Sales & Marketing Manager in the Overseas Business Development Department for an international travel & hotel magazine TRAVEL JOURNAL, and a weekly hotel & restaurant magazine, making over 180 business trips to 50 countries worldwide. He has also held sales and marketing positions in fashion magazines and English information magazines just like Metropolis.

Taichiro Tsutsumi
Taichiro has extensive experience as a web designer and web director, creating over 500 websites, including corporate and e-commerce sites. In addition, he participated in the launch of a smartphone case business and served as executive director (business manager) for about 5 years. He has sold 3,000 cases per month in Shenzhen and Guangzhou in China, Taiwan and all over Japan. He specializes in everything from problem identification to solution.

Masahiro Hirasawa
Born in Nigata. After graduating from university, he has been working in the entertainment industry in charge of sales and advertising. In the advertising business, he has been creating effective plans for the products. As the planning salesman, he has proposed figures from target analysis. Furthermore he has been in charge of the new plan, budget management, administration, and the negotiation with copyright holders and performers in the production work.
